Featured flower for Minnesota: the rose

“A timeless classic that never stops blooming with meaning.”

From the romantic gardens of old Europe to the front porches of suburban Minnesota, roses have always held a special place in the hearts of flower lovers. At Botanical Blitz, we treat the rose not just as a symbol of love, but as a powerful seasonal design element that can elevate any space.

Why we love roses

Roses are more than beautiful – they’re expressive, resilient, and surprisingly versatile. With thousands of cultivars and colors, there’s a rose for every mood, style, and garden condition.

Whether climbing along an archway, tucked into a container, or standing proud in a formal bed, roses offer year-round structure and seasonal drama, especially from late spring through early fall.

These are some of our most requested rose varieties this year:

  • ‘At Last’ Rose – beautiful apricot tones and a strong citrus scent
  • ‘Double Knock Out’ Rose – intense red, blooms all summer long
  • ‘Oso Easy Italian Ice’ – dreamy blend of pink and peach, great in containers
  • ‘Carefree Sunshine’ – bold yellow blooms, fast-growing, and full of energy

How to care for roses (the Blitz Way)

If you’re part of our maintenance plan, we handle all seasonal pruning, feeding, and pest monitoring for your roses. But if you’re caring for them at home, here are a few quick tips:

  • Sunlight: At least 6 hours of full sun per day
  • Watering: Deep, consistent watering — especially during dry weeks
  • Deadheading: Remove spent blooms to encourage fresh growth
  • Fertilizer: Apply a balanced rose fertilizer in early spring and mid-summer
